What’s the coolest Python application, framework or library you discovered this year?
Probably the coolest library I started using this year is Pathlib. Pathlib allows to easily and sanely manipulate files and folder. This library became part of Python standard library since version 3.4, but is available as an add on even for Python 2.6.
What new programming technique did you learn this year?
In 2014 I tried to focus not only on Python, so I have been attending different events, spanning from the Italian DevOps day to From the Front.
Really lots of stuff came out, but I want to point you to an introduction to Responsive Enhancement.
Which open source project did you contribute to the most this year? What did you do?
I am proudly in the crew of the Plone Intranet consortium, a huge and concrete joint effort to make a Plone distribution with a strong focus on intranets!
I invite you to check out Guido Stevens's presentation at Bristol (on vimeo and on slideshare) and the demo site showing how a Plone Intranet website is going to work.
I have been working mainly on the notification infrastructure and fixed lots of failing tests.
Which Python blogs, websites, or mailing lists did you read the most this year?
I am not crying anymore because of Google Reader departure. Since almost one year I am happily using feedly to aggregate the information I need.
Regarding Python I am still looking at the usual sources (Python, Plone, Plone Italia, PyPI feeds, ...).
One of the feed I added in 2014 was the Smashing Magazine one, which is full of priceless and inspiring articles about web design, development, usability and tools.
What are the top three things you want to learn next year?
I would like to...
What is the top software, application or library you wish someone would write next year?
I think that still a lot has to be done for mobile devices. I still have to find a good solution to write code on tablets.
