PloneConf 2013: Plone Conference at FISL 14

FISL has been the meeting point for Brazilian FOSS communities for the past 14 editions. More than that, FISL was the official (and only) yearly gathering for the Python and Plone communities until the first edition of PythonBrasil in 2005 (Back then it was just a PyConDay, later renamed to PyCon Brasil).

Even today FISL is too important, and too big, to be missed. This year it reached more than 7200 attendees, 500 speakers and a considerable number of Python and Plone talks. Also, it is the best place to publicize an event, to get new sponsors -- and we were there.

Jon "Maddog" Hall
Jon Maddog Hall invites you to PloneConference 2013!

Plone have a long history with FISL. In the past Alan Runyan, Nate Aune and Paul Everitt were keynotes, Dorneles Treméa won a programming contest once and it was the favorite place to enlighten yourself with advices from the masters.

But, this year was the first time we -- as a community -- were able to have a proper booth. Thanks to the Plone Foundation, the Brazilian Python Association (APyB) and the PloneGovBr community, we had a base to prospect sponsors, to invite attendees and introduce Plone (and Python) to new users.

We also used the space to have a sprint on the Plone Conference and PythonBrasil[9] sites. Before FISL there were 2 sites, in 2 servers and with different code-bases. Now we unified them and improved the registration and talk submission mechanisms (No more PRISM-certified questions in order to create an account!).

The results of this effort are already paying off:

  • Two new sponsors signed (at least 5 more will follow)
  • A dozen attendees confirmations (Some of them needed formal invitations and we provided that)
  • A new site and ...
  • Much more we will cover as soon as we can (bureaucracy, bureaucracy...)

A special thanks to those who were there and made this possible:

  • Érico Andrei
  • Fabiano Weimar (Xiru)
  • Giuseppe Romagnolli
  • Jean Ferri
    And the famous poster
